Reclaimed West BLOG Tour!

reclaimed-west-blog-tour-graphicI was THRILLED to be asked to be part of Timeless Treasures Reclaimed West Blog Tour.  I had worked this past June for Judy Niemeyer and had seen the samples.  Judel had taken a quick trip to New York to work with Timeless Treasures and had come back so excited that it was hard to not be about this fabric line!

I got the package from Hayden at Timeless and IMMEDIATELY started working on my quilt.  I decided to do the Desert Sky.  It’s a very simple, fast quilt that is FULL of New York Beauties (my FAVORITE block!!).

IMG_9649I started by cutting out pattern.  IMG_9654The directions lay out exactly how to cur the fabric for the templates.  The 24 fabrics lend themselves so nicely to this pattern!IMG_9656A little glue and I was off and sewing!IMG_9658Stacking techniques are laid out in the directions.IMG_9659 My first batch of New York Beauties done: IMG_9663Then on to more!IMG_9674 IMG_9676 IMG_9694Once all blocks were pieced I used my design wall to lay it all out…IMG_9708 IMG_9709 IMG_9720The back was made from the Firestorm, the coordinating batiks!IMG_9725IMG_9727I had a local quilter quilt it and then hand stitched the binding on the way to Quilt Market.

At the end of Market, Judel took it back to Montana to take a few snaps of it.  I was so excited to see how beautiful the photos turned out!

Reclaimed West Blog Tour!

reclaimed-west-blog-tour-graphicYAHOO!  Next week will be the start of the Reclaimed West Blog Tour by Timeless Treasures!  I have been excited about this line of fabric since seeing the samples this summer.

I have some crazy serendipitous connections to it…  My friend Vernie, who lives in Kodiak, is the daughter of the man who owns the ranch where so many of the photos for this fabric line were taken.  She was the person who connected me with Judel Niemeyer about an upcoming vacation their family would be taking in Kodiak.  From connecting with Judel I arranged my local guild, Kodiak Bear Paw Quilter’s Guild, to hire Judy to teach a couple classes this past summer.  I decided to take a Quiltworx retreat in 2013 at Kalispell and Empty Spools in Asilomar in early 2014.  Judy had me come work for her for the month of June 2014.  I was SUPER jazzed about the whole experience and when Hayden from Timeless Treasures asked for participants I signed up!

The fabric is so great to work with–very high quality. I made a quilt from one of Quiltworx simple patterns–the Desert Sky.  (You will see more on the 20th!)  The person I asked to quilt it for me is a local quilter named Julie–who happens to be an in-law of Vernie!  I took my completed quilt to Quilt Market in Houston at the end of October and left it with Judy who (I believe) is taking it to Australia.  I have one final plan for it when I get the quilt back–a little surprise–it will all come full circle.

I can’t wait for the Tour to begin!  Here’s the schedule:
