So, I am fired up! :) I finally finished my DWR Challenge quilt. I have been dying to post about this quilt since it’s inception. The name of this quilt is “I Promise You…the Moon, the Stars, the Sun” and I have never loved any quilt I have made this well.
When I first designed this I wanted a distinction between the union of two people but, yet, in each person there is a little of the other. A quilt with a real example of how marriage is a manifestation of yin-yang. The idea that yin and yang can be thought of as complementary (instead of opposing) forces interacting to form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the parts. As I worked through this idea I changed the middle design (a search for direction) to explore the vast chasm there is between people who are turning from being singles into being couples and a solitary unit. Plus, I appreciate the promise of love lasting as long as our vast solar system. The quilting was done by my wonderful friend Peggy Nekeferoff on her long arm machine. She used several of Judy Niemeyer’s quilt patterns. Here are some of the beautiful details.
The patterns I used in this are by Judy Niemeyer (Quiltworx). She released her Princess Tiara and Art Deco this summer. They are WONDERFUL patterns. The center moon, the stars, and sun come from her Sea Urchins pattern. I also used the Creative Grids Wedding Ring Templates she designed.

I have been struggling with working out the center of the top. I love the melons and arcs. I have changed the colors a little and have been obsessing on the middle blocks. Here is another little peak of some of the middle…

School has started so I have been BUSY at work. I have not had much time to sew during the day (although I still manage to stay up to 2 in the morning no problem!) so all I have done was switch around a few colors and put my “eyes” in. I am LOVING these patterns. Must make more… Quite honestly it’s TOUGH to only do a 4 by 4. I want to go crazy and make it bigger but am practicing MODERATION… something that is so hard for me!

So, the rings are from Quiltworx.com–Judy’s new Princess Tiara pattern and the melons from Art Deco. I AM LOVING THESE! Paper piecing makes me happy! I also have been using Judy’s Creative Grids. E-A-S-Y!
On another note, I think I have 5 friends who are doing the challenge as well. I am excited about them “taking the plunge” with me. :)

OK so I am FIRED UP about the DWR Challenge (have I mentioned that lately??). I have been goofing with designs and working to get others involved in this… Yesterday afternoon I used the Creative Grid Templates (by Judy Niemeyer’s Quiltworx) to see if I could come up with a quickly pieced sample for the “support group” I am getting together. All I have to say is: FAST, EASY, and ACCURATE! Stay tuned for more!!

So, now I am EVEN MORE fired up. :) Can’t wait to get my hands on all of it!!
This is picture of one of my first DWRs made circa 1998 or so (it was a Judy Niemeyer pattern)… I think I can do better now–especially with new patterns from Quiltworx!… must get funky!
